![]() The story focuses on our main character, Sunny, who is a boy that seems like a pretty ordinary person. I’ve played this game so much that it just can’t get out of my heaaaaaaaaad. Going back to the unsettling imagery on this thing, it’s a pretty vivid moment when you see these things even once. Omori takes these topics and dissects them in ways that even anyone who’s been through a traumatic experience can even relate to something like this. ![]() If you are planning on getting this game, be in for what’s probably going to be the biggest emotional roller coaster in your life. It should also be noted that the game does warn you of topics regarding depression, anxiety, and even suicide. Plus, the parts where it’s all pretty and glitzy doesn’t cover the fact that there’s still something waiting to come out from the back end of it all. From very unsettling imagery to even endless amounts of dread at various sections of the game, it just doesn’t let up when you want it to. ![]() While these games have dabbled in these genres before, Omori takes a more demented approach to being a psychological horror game. The main thing you should look at is how it’s executed. While the fusions between pixelated RPG games and psychological horror have been done before many times, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a bad thing. After all, it is labeled “psychological horror” in the Steam market. There’s a lot of happy, joyful moments in here that really put you at ease, but under these layers is a heavily dark and twisted sense of despair waiting to crawl out every chance it gets. However, after playing through the game a few times and beating the game as well, I can safely guarantee you that Omori is essentially another big success for the indie game genre. So putting all of that together, you can expect another pixelated overhead view type of game with dialogue, storytelling, maybe even a bit of a comedic vibe as well. All of which have had a major influence on this game too. From the pixelated, overhead view of games such as, again, Undertale, Yume Nikki, and even older games like Earthbound. Having said that, I do recognize the widespread popularity of such a genre. I’ve never had that much experience playing a full-on indie game either, much less something like Undertale, which I’ve only started playing this year. Maybe even a bit of fighting games here and there as well. I often sat in my chair playing and putting in hours on Borderlands 3 and Genshin Impact as of late. Now personally, I had never even heard of this game before I even played it. ![]() Released after 6 YEARS of development time, it has been eyed on by many in the gaming community as it was introduced as a Kickstarter project that had garnered lots of attention in the public eye.
